One of the great things about any holiday is the unexpected events and festivals that you stumble across on your travels. On my recent holiday in Europe music seemed to be the unexpected theme that threaded our trip together. Everywhere we went, we stumbled across impromptu performances - all different and all adding a little bit extra to our holiday.
After enjoying a relaxing cruise on Lake Lucerne, we came across a performance by the University of Georgia Wind Emsemble in the sound shell on the lake's foreshore.
Wandering through Lucerne's old town, we were lured by the sounds of alp horns being played by some local men.
On the night before Bastille Day, the town of Alsace put on a great festival. One of the highlights was the local marching band performing in full regalia.
A night at Munich's Hofbrauhaus included great food and wine (and beer for the men!), and the chance to listen to some typically Bavarian music.
On the last night of our holiday, we had booked tickets to a Mozart Orchestra Concert in Vienna. It was a great way to finish off our trip.
Have you stumbled across a concert, performance or festival whilst travelling in Europe?
