Tips and Inspiration for your European holiday

Last year when I returned from my European holiday I wrote about the costs we incurred on our driving holiday around Europe. The article has been very popular with my readers so I thought I’d give you a summary of the driving-related costs we incurred on our 2015 European trip.

Once again we leased our vehicle using the tax-free vehicle leasing program. We collected the car at Montpellier airport (after travelling by train from Paris) and dropped it off in Munich on completion of our self-drive holiday.

Here’s a quick summary of our itinerary and some of the sightseeing trips we did by car.

  • French tolls accounted for 55% of the total and Italy 45%.

Here's a short video of the Citroen C4 we leased for our European driving holiday:

*On collection of our vehicle we were advised that it had a full tank of fuel. This is unusual as lease vehicles are normally supplied with only 5 - 10 litres of fuel.

^This amount includes a 15% travel industry discount which globalCARS kindly offered me.

+Due to an unexpected delayed start to our trip this year, we actually collected the vehicle a couple of days later than originally planned and we returned our vehicle (with prior arrangement) before the 45 day lease period was up. Our lease ended up being for 37 days which still worked out at a very reasonable $53.50^ per day.
