Glasgow - gateway to the Scottish lakes

Glasgow_City_Chambers_150Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland, so it makes sense to base yourself in accommodation here while enjoying your Scottish holiday.

There are many sights and attractions in this glorious city but Glasgow is particularly famous for its collection of museums and galleries. Be sure to visit Kelvingrove which has 22 themed state-of-the-art galleries; Burrell, which is home to everything from Chinese to Gothic Art; The Gallery of Modern Art and the CCA for both established names and student works from the Glasgow School of Art. The small cinema within the CCA shows many independent films and documentaries that you won’t see in the popular cinema complexes.

The village is best known for its name, the longest place name in Europe and one of the longest place names in the world. The short form of the village's name is Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, also spelled Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll. It is commonly known as Llanfair PG or Llanfairpwll.

The Eiffel Tower

Eiffel-Tower-150One of Paris' most iconic attractions, the Eiffel Tower, now offers visitors the option of pre-purchasing their tickets online and avoiding the long ticket purchasing queues. With seven million visitors each year, ticket queues can be extremely long in peak season and waits of up to two or three hours are not uncommon. Pre-purchasing entrance tickets allows visitors to nominate their time of entrance (based on the Tower's elevator schedule) and enter at a designated entrance.

 

   

Gorges du Verdon, France

At 25 kilometres long and 700 metres deep in places, the gorge is named after the River Verdon which flows through it.  One of the most dramatic natural sights in Europe, the Gorges du Verdon passes through mostly uninhabitated country between Moustiers-Ste-Marie and Castellane.
