England's Lake District

The Lake District is a popular holiday destination in North West England famous for its lakes as the name suggests and rugged mountainous scenery. The Lake District National Park is the most popular spot for visitors and is home to sights like Scaffell Pike, the highest mountain in England and Wastwater the deepest lake. Hire boats at the Conistan Boating centre and discover the beauty of the lakes yourself or hop aboard an organised cruise that includes dining and entertainment for a truly relaxing trip.

 

There are walks in the Lakes National Park suitable for all abilities; the information centre has maps of both short walks and long walks both on the flats and in the hills. For the kids, there’s an adventure playground with slides, swings, scramble nets and zip wires, a wooden fort and a shipwrecked boat. Search for treasure on the children’s pathfinder sessions and there are of course excellent picnic facilities that can be used rain, hail or shine. Whether you’re staying in hotels in nearby districts or have found accommodation in the Lakes District itself, you’ll want to get the most of this region.
Outside the realms of The National Park there is an exciting array of things to see and do. The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windemere was voted ‘Large Visitor Attraction of the Year’ in 2010 and brings all 23 tales to life in a magical indoor recreation.

 

For a great day of outdoor family fun, head to the Grizedale forest for a challenging course of rope forest sand zip slides suspended high above the forest floor.

The Lakes District boasts numerous galleries and exhibitions – The Brewery Arts Centre is a great stop on the arts trail as is Castlegate House Gallery.

When it comes to shopping you won’t be disappointed, there is everything from craft fairs to high street shops and if you are after a little pampering there are numerous day spas to accommodate.
