Favourite Foto Friday: Entrevaux, France

Entrevaux, Alpes de Haute Provence, France is a glorious mediaeval village nestled safely between the stern gaze of the citadel and the River Var, situated 45 minutes inland from Nice. This photo shows the beautiful intact village with its fortified entrance, the imposing and mysterious citadel amid the rugged mountains clothed in warm autumn hues. The amazing fortress looming out of the swirling autumnal mist dominates the sombre village huddled below.

Approaching from any direction this spectacular sight never ceases to amaze the visitor. Wandering within the walls, amongst the labyrinth of narrow streets and alleys overlooked by tall, mediaeval buildings, allows one to be taken back in time to experience an ancient, more intimate existence.
