Wednesday, 04 January 2012 19:27 If you are planning on driving whilst in Europe, you should obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) prior to your departure from Australia. An IDP is an internationally recognised form of identification, and in many cases is a pre-requisite for hiring a car. It is compulsory in some European countries to present an IDP, as well as your current Drivers' Licence, when collecting your hire or lease vehicle.
Sunday, 18 December 2011 21:38 When packing for your trip to Europe, the old rule of packing light certainly applies. You may want to blend in with the fashionable Europeans, particularly the ultra-chic French and Italians, but practicality pays when you are travelling. Pack clothes that you can layer and that mix and match, and always remember to leave some room in your suitcase or backpack as you're bound to bring home more than you take!Take a pair of good walking shoes – they are certainly worth the investment. Even if you're not planning to go hiking, sturdy, comfortable walking shoes are a must. Many of the 'old towns' in Europe still bear cobblestone streets, and churches and towers require lots of stair climbing, and these don't suit high heels at all!

Driving on the 'wrong' side of the road can be hard enough, but navigating your way through busy streets that are often very narrow and one-way, can quickly raise the blood pressure. So, what do we recommend?

Monday, 21 November 2011 16:21 One thing you might find surprising about European hotels and lodgings is that they don't always offer double beds as we know them in Australia. Many establishments that I have stayed in, from hotels to cottages and apartments, have two single beds (usually king singles) pushed together with a 'double' sheet joining the two together, or two single mattresses on a double base. More often than not when this is the case, two 'single' doonas will be provided rather than a double or queen size doona.
