Silent Night - Holy Night
24 December 2010, 3p.m. - 7p.m. Approx.
The Christmas carol “Silent Night! Holy Night!” was heard for the first time on Christmas Eve in 1818 in the parish church of St. Nikolaus. Following the damaging floods of the 1890’s,
St. Nikolaus’ church was demolished and the Silent-Night-Memorial Chapel was built on the site and consecrated on August 15, 1937. Every year at 5 p.m. on December 24th, a memorial service in honor
of the creators of the Silent Night carol takes place in front of the Silent Night Memorial Chapel. Thousands of people from around the world attend the ceremony and finish by singing “Silent Night!”
in their many languages.
Our knowledgeable tour guide will escort you by bus tour through the foothills of the Alps, along the Salzach River valley to Oberndorf where you can participate in this touching Christmas celebration.
